Launching INSIEME – a project for Common European Energy Data Space
Yesterday marked the launch of the INSIEME project at a kick-off event in Vienna, bringing together over 100 energy sector experts. The project, which stands for Integrated Network for Data Space and Interoperable Energy Management in Europe (INSIEME), unites 54 leading European consortium partners from diverse sectors, including energy, technology, research, and academia. This collaboration aims to drive the transition to net-zero and foster the development of sustainable business models in the energy industry. The kick-off event served as the starting point for this ambitious initiative, setting the stage for the project’s groundbreaking work.
The contribution to the INSIEME project is an important milestone for LNDS. Namely, this project marks LNDS’s first involvement in a European-level initiative within the energy sector.
This is our first EU project in the energy domain and a major step for LNDS to expand our expertise in the Common European Energy Data Space (CEEDS).
Wei Gu, LNDS’s Head of Service
INSIEME Project in a Nutshell
INSIEME focuses on the development of the Common Energy Data Space (CEEDS), a secure and interoperable data-sharing infrastructure that will enable more efficient, transparent, and decentralised energy markets across Europe. This innovative platform will allow for the seamless exchange of data between energy sector stakeholders, including energy producers, system operators, consumers, and regulators, all while ensuring the highest standards of data security and privacy.
The project aims to deploy seven use-cases, each designed to address different aspects of the energy transition, including the integration of renewable energy sources, empowerment of consumers, and the promotion of sustainable business models in energy management, mobility, and industry. By facilitating broader access to data, INSIEME will help unlock new opportunities for decarbonisation and energy system transformation. The project also focuses on enhancing energy security and resilience while advancing the use of innovative technologies and supporting electrification and the development of smart and flexible networks.
INSIEME is co-funded by the European Union’s Digital Europe Programme and represents a significant leap towards Europe’s collective goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The project spans the next 36 months, during which it will work towards advancing this ambitious vision.

LNDS’s Role in INSIEME
In the context of INSIEME, LNDS is contributing its expertise in data space conceptualisation, information model standards, and security and privacy. Through our contribution to INSIEME, we are helping to build a secure, interoperable infrastructure that will play a key role in shaping the future of Europe’s energy system. This project enables us to extend our expertise into the CEEDS, a crucial element in the transition to net-zero and the development of sustainable business models across the energy industry.
These contributions are vital for ensuring that the data space remains secure, interoperable, and accessible to all stakeholders, facilitating a seamless transition to more sustainable and efficient energy systems.
Christophe Trefois, LNDS’s Head of Technology
As INSIEME progresses over the coming months, we look forward to continuing our active role in shaping the future of Europe’s energy data infrastructure. Being part of the INSIEME project not only allows us to contribute to Europe’s energy transition but also enables us to bring back important learnings to the Luxembourg ecosystem. By actively engaging in this European initiative, we ensure that Luxembourg remains connected to the broader European energy data space, fostering interoperability with other national systems. Furthermore, this involvement directly supports Luxembourg’s ambitions to become a more data-driven nation, aligning with European standards and best practices while fostering local innovation and progress.
